Female Romblon mayor in P20m bid-rigging case

THE Ombudsman on Friday filed a graft case against a former mayor of Looc, Romblon, who allegedly awarded a P20-million public works project to a favored contractor through a rigged bidding.

Former Looc Mayor Leila Arboleda, now listed as provincial health officer, was accused of funneling a P20-million water rehabilitation project in December 2003 to Ariel Lim, president and manager of Atlantic Erectors Inc., by circumventing the bidding rules.

According to Ombudsman prosecutor Ma. Theresa Tansiongco, the invitation to bid for the P20-million project was not published in any newspaper and that a pre-bidding conference was conducted without the bids and awards committee.

A P30,000 bail each for Arboleda and Lim were recommended for their provisional liberty. Macon Ramos-Araneta

Liela Arboleda should leave the country immediately before a warrant of arrest is serve to her. It's a common practice by politicos. Look at the good Senator Lacson. She should emulate him. She can also try downplaying the issue by crying political harrasment, politically motivated and sexed-up issue meant to harras her and derail her good intentions altogether. Who knows, some idiots down there will believe the crap!

Wrong advise. The recommend bond is only 60,000 and I know Leila is financially capable of posting a bond. Also, there is nothing to worry because justice will prevail after the trial that she is innocent of the charges filed against her and Mr. Lim.
